Planes: Fire & Rescue Party

My boy is four. It’s unreal. My baby is four.

We had to celebrate with his all-time favorite movie, Planes: Fire & Rescue.

First step – cake.

This was just about the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It took me about 5 hours. I’m serious. Five. Hours. I’m hesitant to link my inspiration, but I have to. But you’ll see what this looks like when a pro does it. Eh hem, first time I used fondant.

Well, every cake needs a dessert table. You can see the flames we used in all the windows. We also had the “Zoom Plane Candy” (as named by J.C. himself). I’ll have a how to on those with J.C., but until then you can see these are propellers.  You can also see our top-8 allergen free cookies!

FoodYes, I plan my parties away from lunch time so I can do snack foods. It worked perfectly. For this party, because Planes: Fire & Rescue is set at a fictional national park, I thought camping. We had a trail-mix bar and of course a s’mores treat.

I was really excited about this because I came up with this around 12:15 a.m. the day of the party. I know, close one. It was really, really easy. I used tissue paper cut like flames – taped right to the counter.

DecorationsWe basically went fire, fire, fire everywhere.

This was really fun. Each of the planes hanging from the ceiling were FREE. Yes, free. Check out the printables here. I hung these all over the place.

Our birthday banner. In hindsight I would have backed these printables with card stock.

Activities & Games: This is probably one of my favorite parts of the party. J.C. handed out a national park-esq pamphlet. I was lucky enough that Disney had created posters that looked like what you would find on a pamphlet. On one page the kids could see all of the activities they would do – make trail mix, douse the flames, make a paper plane and complete smokejumper training. I have generic pamphlets I’m hoping to link – I still haven’t figured out how to do that, but I will. For now, if you’d like the file email me 😉

Favors: This was easy and fun. We got gift bags and added flames! Inside, Play-Doh, planes cookie cutters and hershey kisses (thank you post-Christmas candy sales!).

I want to share the Thank You cards with you because I’m excited about them, but haven’t sent them out yet. So standby, my friends.

  1. i like that you decorated with FIRE everywhere… nice! when i did a police bday party for my little guy i actually CALLED the police dept here and they sent 2 cars out DURING his party. just an idea for next time… maybe if you called the FD…(if they’re not busy) they could be the guest of honor!

  2. How adorable and creative! I think my son’s fourth birthday theme was all things sports, but I remember him being very into firemen, policemen, etc. I wish Pinterest had been around back then, although I probably would have driven myself crazy trying to recreate things. Your cake is awesome, btw.

  3. Love this. Nice job. I’m planning a party for my little guy and of course I’m having a hard time getting anything for it. I found a large cardboard party stand up but was told it was discontinued from Disney. The link for those photos isn’t there anymore either. I’ll have to get creative!
